Creating Striations Defining 2013 - Executive Resume Writing Service

Creating Striations Defining 2013 - Executive Resume Writing Service Kara Lynn Bird (Flickr)By Jacqui Barrett-PoindexterPensive, yet excited.Intellectually wrung, yet physically and emotionally rested.Lingering, deliberating, strategizing, planning, poised for renewed momentum. The days between Christmas and New Years are gently stretched and pulled with the weight of contemplation, and hope. Renewed resolve to complete the incomplete and start the unstarted provide momentum and hope. The days leading into 2013 are robust. Weighing heavily on my mind are vows to:1.  Perpetuate My 2012 Resolution to Get Fit. My husband, Captain Rob and I hit the ground running in January 2012 to shed weight and strengthen our bodies. We succeeded! As of today (Dec. 30), Ive lost 30 pesky pounds while also focusing on toning and sculpting. After (Dec. 2012)The before picture (on the bottom) shows me in the midst of transformation (about four months in), while the after photo (on the top) illustrates where Im at today (taken the week before Christmas). While delighted for th e changes accomplished in the past 12 months, Im not yet done. However, monitoring the scale is no longer my number-one priority (though, I aspire to shed another 10 lbs.); as importantly, my goal in 2013 is to heighten strength training. This includes increasing the weights I lift and changing up my routines throughout the year.A significant aspect of my escalated strength training initiative is my goal to create striations in my shoulders and greater muscle definition overall. Moreover, I realize that health and fitness objectives are never completed. While celebrating milestones is important, the organic nature of the human body requires continual effort and change. My vow is to continue this fitness journey throughout my life. Before (Apr. 2012)2. Revive Mine â€" and Robs â€" Personal Voice in the CareerTrend Blog. This past year was satisfyingly expansive as the CareerTrend brand was transported via Glassdoor to US News, and beyond as we were represented in a variety of high-prof ile news media including Business Insider, AOL and FOX Business.  However, along the way, we slowed a bit in creating our own personally-imbued content.   My goal is that 2013 will ensure a minimum of three posts per month on the CareerTrend blog from either Rob or me.3. Deepen Communications With My CareerTrend Clientele through regular reach-out via social media, email and quality-focused newsletter content.4. Serve My Clients Needs, With Vigor. While the intellectual and emotional investment often is daunting, and I am satisfied that my clients are reaping value beyond their financial investment, I know I can do even better. I strive to strengthen my resolve and continue to improve on my value to my clients. 5. Show (dont just tell) My Family and Friends I Value Them, more readily and frequently than I did in 2012.6. Visit Kansas City, Missouri, and in particular, spend time with my parents and sisters/their families, and friends, who may be available.7. Increase My LinkedIn Inv estment.  This business, marketing and relationship propelling network is often underutilized. My job is to remain abreast of latest trends and techniques that will lift my clients careers; as well, I personally need to continue to expand my value and offer meaningful contributions through daily updates and reading, commenting on and sharing my networks content.8. Create a Zen Office.  While focusing in on my writing often consumes my imagination and transports my mind, I still desire (and need) a more encouraging, stimulating and motivating environment in which to conduct my day-to-day business and design career and blogging stories.9. Rein in My Run-Rampant Email In-box.  This speaks for itself. I plan to work on this through the month of January. Clearing the clutter of the accumulated emails will augment the zen mentioned above.10. Support Fellow Business, Marketing and Careers Bloggers Better. Encourage, promote and comment. This will mean better organizing my time and centerin g efforts on those folks (friends, colleagues) whose intellectually and emotionally replete blogs I most admire.11. Be a Better Wife and Partner.  I am excited about the goals and dreams Rob and I have articulated with one another for the rest of our lives, and in particular for the next 12 months. I vow to be fully present, energized and communicative as we move through the day-to-day. Its often the little things that shape and bolster the foundation of a marriage.  12. Read More.  I must prove to myself, and to Rob, that the Barnes Noble Nook was a wise investment. I must read more in 2013.13. Improve My Relationship With God.  I will continue reading my C.S. Lewis book; download the Bible to my Nook; and talk to God more frequently.Have You Committed to Your 13 Vows for 2013?What projects, goals and/or commitments would you like to address, reinforce, start or re-start? If you havent taken time to do so,  what is stopping you? Ive read many naysayer posts indicating that resolut ions are out, but I must object. We can resolve to achieve (most) anything we want. Its about taking a stand to commit to whats important, then adapting your sails throughout the year to adjust for the unexpected while maintaining an eye on the destination. What better time to cut your losses for the prior year and start with a fresh slate than now, as 2012 comes to a close? New years are considered markers for a reason! They are chronologically defining! And, dont forget to Think BIG! While day-to-day action steps may range from quite small to very large, make sure that your end goals are LARGER than your current reality. Create milestones and markers, and celebrate along the way!

Soon to Be a Working Mother - Classy Career Girl Baby is Coming Soon

Soon to Be a Working Mother Baby is Coming Soon If you have been watching my social media posts over the last few months, you know that I am expecting! I am feeling so blessed by so many sweet tweets and emails of congratulations from all of you who have been following along my journey for so long. I am also getting a TON of questions, and I have been meaning to write this post for a long time to give you all the details. So, today I decided its time to start writing this post before I actually have this baby. Here are the most frequently asked questions that I have been receiving from all of you! If you have any further questions, please ask them in the comments below, and I will be answering your questions! Also, please share any words of wisdom in the comments below for this soon-to-be-first-time working mom! 1) Boy or girl? Name? Its a GIRL! So excited!  Still making the final name decision, so you will have to stay tuned for that announcement. 2) When are you due? June, 2014. 3) Are you going to blog on maternity leave? Heck no!  But, I am writing three months of blog posts NOW, so you will have plenty of great posts while I am out! My fabulous assistant, Lor, will be making sure that my business is going strong while I away. I have a feeling you will never know that my feet are up and I am not working! ?? 4) Will the blog change? Fewer posts, but better posts. 5) Will you be changing your blog to Classy Career Girl Mom? Haha! This question came from my brother.  No plans to change it but I am really looking forward to adding more blog content about being a working mother and work-life balance (if it exists). 6) What clothing items are you loving while being pregnant? I bought the best black work pants at HM , and I would love to share them with you but they arent on the HM website anymore. I have also loved  MAMA Skinny Jeans  from HM that I have been living in for the past four months. Oh, and I might be guilty of wearing this MAMA Jersey top  from HM  every day as well.  Overall, HM is where I first started getting some staples and I highly recommend heading there first or ordering online if there isnt one near you. I have had to invest in some really nice professional maternity dresses for all the speaking engagements I have done over the past few months with my book launch.  I found the best professional dresses at Motherhood Maternity and was able to fit into a lot of my non-maternity dresses for the first half of my pregnancy as well.  But now, the options in my closet are slowly shrinking as clothing is getting tighter and tighter. At least getting ready is a lot faster with fewer options in the closet! P.S. Women, tell your husbands that the best compliment they can give a pregnant woman is, You really dont look pregnant at all from behind!  My husband continues to score points with that one! 7) What are your nursery colors? Light pink, white and gray.  This is my Pinterest nursery photo inspiration at Project Nursery.   But, it sure doesnt look like thatyet. 8) How is work going while pregnant? As you know, I still provide part-time consulting to the military, and when you work with a bunch of men, you are bound to get some comments that are just flat out rude while pregnant. I am definitely learning how to handle the rude comments and go with the flow. One of the men I work with tells me that I am getting a little bigger every time I see him.  And each time I tell him, Yes, thats what happens when you are having a baby. I know from 8 years of working with these men that they arent trying to be rude, they just dont really know what the right thing to say is. So I try to brush it off and not get  annoyed. 9) How are you feeling now? I am 30 weeks now and feeling great! I have no complaints at all. I am just so blessed to BE pregnant! During the first trimester, I was teaching two classes at DeVry University while I was feeling like CRAP.  I also had about five speaking events in my first trimester that I somehow pulled off successfully. I am very thankful that time is OVER! Yuck! 10) How did you tell your boss and co-workers? Any regrets? I actually had a new work opportunity come up when I was only ten weeks pregnant. I really didnt feel right about taking it and then telling them a month later that I was pregnant and going to be leaving soon. I also just didnt feel that it was the right transition for me and my career. So, I said no.  It forced me to tell my boss way ahead of the time that I had originally planned to tell her. I was definitely not planning to tell my boss during the  first trimester. But, she was very happy for me and totally understanding. Plus, I have a good relationship with her so I knew she could keep it a secret until I was ready to tell all of my clients and co-workers. Once I felt ready to tell everyone I work with (which I procrastinated until 15 weeks), it went well.  I was very fortunate that it was December and I could easily bundle up with jackets, scarves and big sweaters, even in San Diego! I didnt want to tell anyone in the office environment when everyone was so busy at work. So, I waited until we had an office holiday happy hour and let the news out at the happy hour. This was great because I could make sure that everyone knew and I just went around to everyone individually and said, Did you hear the good news!  I made sure that I told my clients and bosses first though before a ton of co-workers. I wanted them to hear it from me instead of through the grapevine. 11) Planned or unplanned? Both.  I have shared a little on the blog before about my struggle to become a mom. Over the last three years, I have had two miscarriages and one failed IVF attempt. This was an unplanned miracle baby thanks to a lot of prayers. She was just waiting for the right time to enter our lives and it all makes so much sense now. 12) Birth plans?   Bradley Method.  If you are curious what the heck that is, here is more information.  And if you are in San Diego and need an awesome instructor, contact me and I will tell you where to go! 13) Books/magazines I couldn’t live without: You know I have to get my systems and processes down ahead of time so I have been faithfully going through the weekly checklist in the book, One Year to an Organized Life With Baby:  From Pregnancy to Parenthood, the Week-by-Week Guide to Getting Ready for Baby and Keeping Your Family Organized. And I also started my monthly subscription to Working Mother magazine with a new dream goal to write an article for the magazine someday soon. 14) What are your childcare plans? My wonderful mother lives just 10 minutes away so right now that is my #1 babysitting option.  I am lucky that I do work from home so I do have more flexibility in how and when I work. I am planning to just take it one day at a time and see how things go. I have already put together a plan for my ideal workday with the baby. This is something that I teach my clients to do when they are job searching so I wanted to do it myself, too. If I dont have a plan for how I want my ideal workday to go, I know that it will just start happening and I will lose control. I think its important to set some boundaries for yourself and make sure you do what makes you happy in your day as much as possible. 15) Great advice I have been  getting over and over again:   I have actually received so much advice that I started making a list. Who knows what is right but I wanted to document it to look back at later. There is no balance. Don’t believe it. It goes so fast when you have a baby and you will have plenty of time for yourself when they grow up. The most important thing is being with your kids when they are young. Always cook a home cooked meal. Remember why you are doing what you are doing for work. You have to have passion for your career when you are a working mom or it just isnt worth it. Dont have any preconceived notion going in. Other people’s advice might be nothing like your experience. Sleep when the baby sleeps. Take care of yourself. Bond with your new baby. Know why you want what you want, the how will come with time. I want her to see me living out loud. You do what it takes. Classy Career Girl Readers! Please help! What is your best advice for this soon-to-be working mother??

5 Signs Its Time For A Career Change

5 Signs Its Time For A Career Change At some point in your professional life, you want to make a difference in your chosen career. However, there are many hurdles in turning a new leaf like financial stability or uncertainty with life direction. Most of the times, these hurdles hold back your decision to move on and make a change until you no longer realize the need for a career change.evalBut what are the signs that might push you to consider a new direction in your professional career?1. Job ContentmentWhen you are new to a job, you have that spark and enthusiasm that keeps you moving at your new workplace. You report to work one hour early, and you would stay beyond office hours unless the bosses have left the building. You volunteer to prepare business presentations for clients or to make copies of documents. You keep the same enthusiasm for one year. Until one day, waking up feels like dragging yourself to work. You are already anxious about the 10 am meeting at work even before you have your first cup of coffee. It se ems like nothing is exciting anymore about going to work, and everything you do becomes a routine. If you are craving for something new and exciting, and a great hobby is not enough to fill that void, you might consider looking for something else.2. When your talent potentials are not recognizedThe first time you got a new job, you hope for a sense of growth. You feel like your current job will teach you things about the business, which can potentially help you climb that corporate ladder. Getting feedback from either your employer or co-workers lets you know how much you have improved and the things you need to work on. However, if you are surrounded by coworkers, who constantly notice your weaknesses and keepevalGetting feedback from either your employer or co-workers lets you know how much you have improved and the things you need to work on.However, if you are surrounded by coworkers, who constantly notice your weaknesses and keep mum about your contribution to the team or busin ess, it becomes less motivating to work.If your boss does not trust your potential, it is difficult to remain loyal. You want to be surrounded by people who give you constructive feedback that will only improve your work quality but your overall character as well.3. Stunted Professional GrowthevalEvery employee dreams of achieving something in their journey towards a fruitful employment. Unfortunately, some employees wait in vain for years to get that chance. To those who value loyalty over career growth, they believe that that opportunity has not yet arrived even if they have been working for five years in the same company with the same position.Sometimes, you have to have control of your own journey and ask your employer if they can help you with your career growth. If you think there is no solution in sight or your employer cannot help you advance your career, move on.4. The Corporate CultureThere is nothing more stressful than being in a toxic working environment. Gossips and offic e politics are inevitable, but there is a limit to what a human being can only handle with civility.A hostile working environment is a difficult place to be in because it adds to the pressure to the actual job. Leadership and workplace problems can affect your performance and even your ability to advance. If the toxicity of the workplace is unbearable to the point that it affects your personal life, then hand in your resignation.5. No freedom to express YourselfYour performance in your career is dependent on your ability to freely express yourself. A good employer-employee relationship rests on the open and respectful communication whether it is on the job or their professional relationship. This also includes your freedom to discuss the increase in your salary or the possibility of being regularized after being a temp employee for six months.evalIf your employer does not give you the freedom to do your job or to speak your mind, you might have to consider a new career.Take this oppor tunity to evaluate your career and your plans. Your decision does not only determine what you want to achieve in your professional career, but it also reflects your perspective of life.

Interesting Story About Life Coaches on CBS - Hallie Crawford

Interesting Story About Life Coaches on CBS In case you missed it, there was a short story on the CBS morning news a few weeks ago called Life Coaches are for Everyone. You can read it here. As a life coach, I am glad the media is highlighting our profession more and more. And I am aware that sometimes this focus is positive, sometimes not so positive. I think this story skews the view of coaching and doesnt present a completely accurate picture of what coaching is truly about. Even more interesting are some of the comments below the story. These are good food for thought about the coaching profession. They demonstrate that not everyone knows what true coaching is, and how it can benefit people. I personally am glad to get different perspectives on the profession, including the negative ones, so that as coaches we can continually strive to educate the public about what our profession is really about. It also motivates me to continue to hone my skills as a professional coach, maintain my certification as a coach, and ensure I deliver a high level of coaching to my clients. There are people out there who call themselves coaches but they are not practicing a true form of coaching as defined by the International Coach Federation. And I think this happens with any profession, however, coaching is not yet regulated so many people are jumping on the bandwagon and calling themselves coaches. As with any new profession, we are in the process of defining who we are and what we do. As time goes on, I look forward to having more regulation of coaching as needed, and greater testing and certification for coaches so that the general public knows what they are getting in a coach. And knows how to find the right coach for them. Have a great weekend! Hallie find the right career Dont Miss the Last Career Seekers Teleclass for 2007!
